Cutting highly sensitive personal documents into unreadable shreds, I am able to remove traces of myself from the world. This information that coheres to represent me -- such as birthdate, social security number, banking and other financial data is rendered mute. Identity thieves are thwarted.
Through their destruction, these documents become the raw material of my art.
I re-organize and categorize the strips into patterns, shapes and designs. In building my art, I make order out of chaos, transform the private into the public, and make sense out of what might otherwise seem random.
This process, to me, is similar to how we edit and navigate our lives.
